TICK TOCK Chapter 17 (Part: 3)

“Don’t worry, I won’t be asking to leave them here, but I need you to ring one of your dodgy mates. I need a flat that I can rent, furnished so it looks like I live there, and somewhere cheap, because I will just be using it as a base for the drug storage. I don’t want it in my name though because I don’t want the police to be able to trace anything, and I need it today if possible.”
“You don’t ask for much, do you? Fuck you’re stressing me out no end. How come I end up having to get involved in all of this despite asking not to play any part?”
I pour a large whisky and down it in one while Mick makes some calls. I’m desperate for some powder but too paranoid that the police ring me and ask me to go back into the station, or worse, turn up at the house and demand I go with them. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before some information turns up about me.

“Sorted,” Mick says, rubbing his head to ease the stress I’m clearly causing him. I’ve got you a grotty little furnished bedsit for seventy a week. It’s on the Lofton Estate on the other end of town. You might need a bodyguard to get there but that was all I could manage.”
“Cheers, I owe you one. Pass the beer, mate, I need to get pissed.”
An hour later, Pez rang.
“I’ve got you a job title. You’ve been head of promotions for the past twelve months and you do freelance work for your boss, Juno. He pays you to deliver leaflets, promote online, get customers in, etc… and he hires you out. Don’t worry, he can create a paper trail of references if need be and a list of clubs you’ve worked for so that’s one area that should be solid. Fuck, that bitch has caused some shit, but she’s making up for it now.” He laughed as he put down his phone.
What did he mean making up for it now? How could she be making up for anything seeing as she was dead?
“Mick, Pez has just said the weirdest thing. He said that Dani had caused a lot of shit but that she is making up for it now. What the fuck does that even mean?”
Mick looked at me long and hard as if weighing up something.
“What? What is it, Mick? Do you know something that I don’t?”
“Shit, no matter how hard I try to keep out of this mess, I seem to get dragged into it regardless. I have heard some rumours, that’s all.”
“Rumours about?”
“Well, it was a while ago now so I’m not even sure if it’s still happening but I heard that Pez ran a high-end brothel, bringing in the big bucks. I haven’t a clue where it is or was and I’m not sure if he still has it.”
“You think he meant that Dani is working for him in his brothel?” I question loudly. I got up, grabbed another beer and paced back and forward, a feeling of nausea and unease settling within me.
“Look, that was what I heard but it might not be true.”
“We need to find out where this brothel is and find out if she’s in there.”
“Mate, I’m sorry but I can’t get involved in this. I’m in way deeper than I’d like and I probably shouldn’t have told you that so please don’t say it came from me. I don’t want anything to do with the brothel, so I’m out.”
The more I play his words around in my head, the more it makes sense. You’ve seen Dani, she’s stunning and has a figure to die for; of course he’d not just dispose of her. If he works her, then he can get his money back. The bastard!”

I can’t sleep, all I can think about is her being pimped out. I make it my mission to find out if she is still alive.
